A battery storage technician performs planned and reactive maintenance, inspection, testing, troubleshooting, repair, and operational support for utility-scale battery energy storage systems and their electrical, controls, thermal, and safety subsystems. Many people start with a two-year associate degree or a technical certificate rather than a four-year degree.

Maintain battery systems
Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair enclosures, modules, racks, BMS hardware, and auxiliaries.
Support power conversion
Service inverters, power conversion systems, transformers, switchgear, relays, meters, and SCADA interfaces.
Execute safe work plans
Run preventive maintenance, permits, job safety plans, lockout/tagout, and risk assessments.
Diagnose alarms
Resolve alarms, communication failures, thermal issues, isolation faults, and unavailable units.
